Two injured after LP gas plant in Sonora catches fire

Ciudad Obregón, Sonora — Elements of the National Guard, as well as firefighters, Civil Protection and rescue personnel began evictions of the surrounding area of an LP gas company after a tank at the facility exploded.

The explosion of the large LP gas tank occurred after a tank caught fire in the Riviera Gas distribution plant in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora. At least two employees suffered second degree burns. Personnel from the National Guard, the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) and firefighters attend to the scene.

The gas tank explosion occurred around 7:00 a.m. Emergency personnel spent more than three hours trying to extinguish flames and prevent two other 120,000-liter tanks from exploding.

The two injured employees were transferred to a hospital in Cajeme for emergency treatment.
