Two hospitalized in two vehicle highway crash north of Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — At least one person was seriously injured in a two vehicle highway accident outside Playa del Carmen Friday. The accident happened between a private car and a public transport van.

Paramedics were requested at the scene approximately 10 kilometers north of the city of Playa del Carmen Friday afternoon. There, several people from inside the car along with passengers from the public transport unit stood along the highway observing the two damaged vehicles.

According to early information, the driver of the private car was allegedly entering the highway, and in doing so, cut off an oncoming public transport unit. The public combi van ended up crashing into a highway pole.

The private car was rolled onto its passenger side. The male front seat passenger inside the private car had his arm hanging out the window at the time of the accident. His arm was extensively damaged from his elbow down after being pinned between the car and highway asphalt.

Paramedics applied a tourniquet to control bleeding while rushing him to hospital. There is no official word on his condition. The driver of the private car was also hurt and taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries.
