Two flights diverted from Cancun International to Merida due to heavy rain

Cancun, Q.R. — Heavy rains at the Cancun International Airport caused two flights to be diverted to Merida. The two national flights bound for the city of Cancun were forced to land at Merida International due to the heavy rains Friday.

A flight from Santa Lucía and another from Chihuahua, both destined for Cancun, were forced on to Merdia to wait out the system. Airport managing company Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR) reported that Aeroméxico flight 588 from Santa Lucía and VivaAerobus 2183 from Chihuahua were affected.

“In order to guarantee the safety of passengers and air operations, it was decided to take this measure on both flights,” the Cancun managing company ASUR reported Friday.

On Friday, Cancun International recorded 502 operations of which 253 were arrivals. Due to the bad weather, only two national flights were diverted while four international flights and one national flight were delayed in their arrival.
