Two arrests made in murders of Valladolid French expats

Valladolid, Yucatan — Two men have been arrested in the deaths of two French expats who ran a hostel in the Yucatan city of Valladolid. The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) and the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) of Yucatan have reported on the arrests of the men.

The suspectes were detained in separate operations last week after warrants were issued for their arrests. Taken into custody are Iván Z.L. and Moisés O.U., both believed involved in the deaths of the French couple.

According to the SSP, one of the individuals, 34-year-old Iván Z.L., was arrested in the state of Guanajuato while 41-year-old Moisés O.U. was taken into custody in Querétaro, both of whom are reported to be gang members.

The bodies of the two French expats identified as Amado and Assya “M”, were found buried under rock and concrete in mid-September after being murdered sometime in August. The couple were found buried in the back courtyard of the Valladolid hostel they managed.

The arrests of the two men occurred 53 days after relatives reported their disappearance. According to reports, the two now-detained used the couple’s cell phones to have relatives believe they were alive and traveling.
