Construction workers arrested in Playa del Carmen for trying to sell wild parrots they caught in nearby jungle

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Two men found in possession of three parrots were secured by Playa del Carmen police officers. The two were taken into custody Saturday afternoon in El Petén residential area by patrolling officers.

Police patrolling the city’s northwest area noticed the pair trying to sell the birds on Avenida del Carmen. When interviewed, they admitted to capturing the birds from a nearby jungle area where they worked as construction laborers.

Arrested for the illegal possession of protected wildlife were 41-year-old Raúl N and 43-year-old Rafael N. The three parrots were transferred to the corresponding authorities for safekeeping.
