Two American sailors rescued after running aground in Costa Maya

Costa Maya, Q.R. — The Navy of Mexico reports the rescue of two American sailors from their vessel after their boat ran aground near the Zaragoza Canal in the southern portion of the state.

La Secretaría de Marina – Armada de México says personnel assigned to the Eleventh Naval Zone provided assistance to two US citizens after their sailboat ran aground approximately 600 meters from the Zaragoza Canal.

According to their information, the rescue operation was launched after a call was received informing authorities that a sailboat called Riki, with two crew on board, had run aground west of the Canal de Zaragoza in Costa Maya.

Elements of the Mexican Navy set sail to their location where they found Riki and her two crew members. Riki was towed toward deeper waters to carry on with her journey. Both crew members were reported to be in fine health.
