Twin-engine plane makes emergency landing in sugarcane field

Sergio Butrón Casas, Q.R. — Due to a technical failure, the pilot of a small twin-engine aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing. The pilot, with only his co-pilot on board, managed to safely land the plane in a sugarcane field near the community of Sergio Butrón Casas in the southern region of the state.

The plane, which received substantial damage upon landing, and its crew were attended to by elements of the Secretary of National Defense (SEDENA). Both crewmen inside the six-seater required medical attention for minor injuries.

Sedena officials reported the Piper Navajo requested support from the Chetumal control tower around 3:00 p.m., citing technical failures and being forced to make an emergency landing.

The plane was bound for the Chetumal airport after leaving Morelia, Michoacán.
