Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — An occupant of a truck that rolled outside Playa del Carmen Wednesday was killed. A passenger of the company truck was found dead Wednesday afternoon after a roll over on the El Tintal toll road.
The company cargo truck was transporting a load of steel beams west of the city when the driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and swerved. Due to the heavy load, the sudden swerve caused the truck to roll onto its roof.
While the driver and front seat passenger were able to escape, a third passenger riding in the bed, reported to be a company worker, was crushed under the weight of the beams.
Police arrived and cordoned off a large section of highway while they waited for emergency personnel. National Guard arrived to coordinate the flow of traffic and assist with security efforts while paramedics confirmed the third passenger dead at the scene.
