Soyaló, Chiapas — A horrific road accident in the state of Chiapas has claimed the lives of at least 25 and left 29 more injured.
The accident happened Thursday afternoon when a cargo truck crashed into a ravine along the Chicoasén-Soyaló section of the Ixtapa-Soyaló highway.
In a statement, la Fiscalía General de Chiapas says that so far, 25 people have been found dead with 29 injured, all of whom were taken to area hospitals. They report that for reasons not yet known, the cargo truck left the roadway and crashed into a ravine near the Bombaná River near the municipality of Soyaló.
The state attorney says that a three-ton cargo truck that was traveling without license plates went off the road and fell into the ravine. The cargo truck was carrying at least 80 illegal Central American migrants who entered Mexico through the La Mesilla port.
They say the truck was bound for the state of Veracruz.
