Mexico City, Mexico — Nearly 80 percent of Mexicans who had a paid or planned trip to Europe for March or Easter, have decided to cancel or postpone it, reported the Mexican Association of Travel Agencies.
The Asociación Mexicana de Agencias de Viajes says the cancellations are due to the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. In a statement, the agency noted that 70 percent of Mexicans who have chosen not to travel to Europe have redirected their trip to Mexican beach destinations including Cancun, Riviera Maya, Mazatlán and Huatulco.
The Asociación Mexicana de Agencias de Viajes noted that at the moment, Los Cabos is not a sought-after destination due its proximity to the United States where there are more cases of Covid-19 than in Mexico, including deaths.
The agency says that in the face of the decline in tourism, which is expected due to the pandemic, the 60 travel agencies that make up the association are working on new strategies to avoid being heavily affected by this crisis.
