Tijuana customs finds $46,000 USD stashed inside passenger door of San Diego vehicle

Tijuana, Baja California — Mexican Customs in Tijuana located a driver who attempted to cross into Mexico with more than $46,000 USD. The cash was found during a random inspection of a private vehicle Sunday when they tried to cross the Baja California land border.

Elements of the National Guard were called in for assistance after money was found tucked into the passenger side door. An inspection of the vehicle lead them to find more cash stashed in the back of the vehicle.

In total, Mexican Customs located $46,850 USD in cash, the equivalent of around 934,000 Mexican peso. Since the driver of the vehicle could not prove its legal origin, the money was seized and the unidentified driver arrested.

The Agencia Nacional de Aduanas de México (ANAM) reported that the driver had come from San Diego, California and was destined for Tijuana when the discovery was made.
