Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Three Ukrainian families in the municipality of Solidaridad have applied for political asylum. The families made their application after Russia declared war on their country.
Solidaridad head Lili Campos posted on social media, “In Solidaridad we have 3 refugee families from Ukraine who request political asylum. We serve and support them with legal advice through our migrant care unit and by liaising with the Mexican Commission for Refugee Aid.”
The Secretary of Tourism, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, did not give a figure on the current number of Russian and Ukrainian tourists in the state at the time, but affirmed that last year, Quintana Roo received 68,000 Russians and 22,000 Ukrainian visitors.
