Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Three people were treated for injuries after a Sunday afternoon highway accident. National Guard and Municipal Police were first on scene in response to 9-1-1 reports of a two vehicle crash.
According to early information, a public combi that runs between Cancun and Playa del Carmen collided with the back of a private vehicle. The accident was reported by motorists south of Playa del Carmen at around noon.
The private vehicle was pushed off the highway and through a concrete barrier before coming to a rest in shoulder vegetation. Three people from inside the hatchback suffered blunt injuries that were treated at the scene by paramedics.
Traffic in either direction was not affected by the accident. Tow trucks eventually arrived to remove both vehicles. It is not clear how the van came to rear-end the hatchback.
