La Paz, Baja California Sur — Three adult turtles have been rescued by environmental officers at the La Paz International Airport from from being sent via parcel service to Mexico City.
La Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Ambiente (Profepa) were called to the airport after customs officials found the three turtles in a package bound for Mexico City.
During inspection, Profepa officers determined that the documentation did not comply with the legal requirements to ship the turtles which are a protected species, and were therefore, seized.
The turtles are regulated by the Convention on International Trade for Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, of which Mexico is a member.
