Akumal, Q.R. — Highway patrols attended to a single vehicle rollover Wednesday night along the federal highway. A tourist van carrying at least two tourists rolled several times outside Akumal before coming to a stop.
The single vehicle accident happened when the driver of a Nexus Tours van heading south rolled.
According to initial reports, the accident was caused by a rear tire blowout. The failed tire caused the driver to lose control of the van which veered into the central median, rolled several times, hitting a concrete wall along the way.
The van came to a stop in the upright position facing north, in the opposite direction it was initially traveling.
National Guard Highways took control of the federal highway crash site Wednesday night.
Three people from inside the vehicle were reported injured. Early information says the driver and two passengers from inside the van were taken to Playa del Carmen hospital The extent of their injuries remains unknown.
