Costa Maya, Q.R. — Several Xcalak fishermen were rescued by elements of the navy after their boat capsized due to high waves. The trio were pulled from the water Sunday afternoon after their small fishing vessel filled with water and sank.
One of the fishermen managed to swim to shore, and on foot, ran to the Port Captaincy to report the accident, notifying authorities that his three mates were still clinging to the sunken vessel. Navy members of the Search and Rescue unit made their way toward the area and found the remaining men.
They were pulled onto the navy boat, while their vessel Sea and Sun was towed back to shore. Once on land, the men were medically evaluated and found to be in good health.
