Bacalar, Q.R. — Two buses carrying passengers collided last night in the municipality of Bacalar. Several people were reported injured. According to available information, the first bus hit a black cow that was crossing the dark highway Sunday night.
The driver of that bus, when hitting the cow, lost control and suffered significant damage to his unit including a completely blown-out windshield. Not far behind, a second bus was unable to break and collided with the back of the first bus.
Police located the double bus crash outside the town of Limones in the municipality of Bacalar. Under a wheel of the first bus was the rear of the cow. The animal died at the scene.
Paramedics from Bacalar arrived to attend to the injured. At least three bus passengers were transferred to hospital.
Late night traffic was backed up for a few hours while the two banged up buses were towed and the deceased cow removed from the highway.
