Three hospitalized after head-on Costa Maya highway crash

Costa Maya, Q.R. — Three people were injured in a head-on highway crash in Costa Maya. A compact company vehicle carrying four crashed head-on with a Tulum taxi. While they were waiting for emergency personnel, a car and motorcycle happened upon the accident, also becoming part of the scene.

The accident happened just after 1:00 a.m. on a section of Tulum-Felipe Carrillo Puerto highway. According to witness testimonies, Alexander “H”, the driver of the compact company car, momentarily crossed into the opposite lane.

The car, which was traveling toward Tulum hit the taxi as it was driving toward Felipe Carrillo Puerto. A third vehicle stopped when they came upon the accident scene. Moments later, a motorcycle driven by 41-year-old Dora “L” hit that stopped car. Both drivers were injured.

Emergency services arrived and treated the motorcycle driver, the taxi driver who hit the windshield and one of the passengers from the compact car before they were transferred to hospital. Three others were treated on site for minor injuries.

National Guard agents attended to traffic and ensured the vehicles involved were towed from the highway.
