Three charged with extorting PDC Fifth Avenue business

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Three men are facing official charges of extortion against a PDC Fifth Avenue business. Carlos Alberto “N”, Leonel “N” and Benito “N” have been accused of extorting a local businessman on January 23, 2025.

According to police, “Carlos Alberto “N”, Leonel “N” and Benito “N” were charged when they went to a commercial establishment located on Fifth Avenue and 32nd Street in the Centro neighborhood where they ordered the workers to get the manager.

“When they refused, Carlos Alberto “N” handed a phone to an employee where he received a phone call from a person of unknown identity, who demanded that he allow them to sell drugs in the establishment.

“In addition, he also requested the amount of 40,000 pesos per month for the so-called floor rights,” police said in a statement.

Three charged with extorting PDC Fifth Avenue business

After a former complaint was filed, police began the corresponding investigation which lead to their arrest and subsequent charges. A judge has ordered all three remain in custody during their trials.
