Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A highway accident outside Playa del Carmen has sent five to hospital where one was pronounced upon arrival. The deadly two vehicle accident happened shortly after 11:00 p.m. Saturday.
Passing motorists made reports to emergency services after seeing two destroyed vehicles along the highway. Solidaridad Police along with firemen and Civil Protection were at the late night scene where they found five injured.
One of the involved cars was heading south on the federal 307 highway when it crossed into the opposite lane, crashing into another vehicle. A total of five people from the two vehicles were taken to hospital. One of the injured, a minor teen, was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police remained on scene while tow trucks arrived to remove the Nissan Versa and Nissan Kicks from the road. Both vehicles were destroyed. Authorities continue to investigate an official cause of the accident.
