Tulum, Q.R. — A fellow officer who was in preventative detention in Tulum died while in police custody. The incident happened early Monday morning after the man, an active officer, was arrested less than two hours before.
Active municipal officer, 34-year-old Humberto P from Tabasco, was taken to Tulum jail on charges of disturbing public order and verbally assaulting authorities. While in their custody in a cell of the Civic Court of the Ministry of Public Security, the man died.
Preliminary reports say the Tabasco officer, who was arrested at 3:30 a.m., died at 4:50 a.m. from bronchial aspiration. That cause of death was made after a review by an on-site doctor.
Elements from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) arrived at the scene to collect evidence. The body was transferred to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) for an autopsy to determine the official cause of death. The case is being investigated.
