Swimmer dies by drowning in a Bacalar lagoon

Bacalar, Q.R. — Emergency 9-1-1 sent police to a Bacalar lagoon Sunday in response to the report of a drowning. A 44-year-old out-of-state man was pulled from the Canal de los Piratas lagoon unconscious Sunday evening.

According to the police report, the incident was reported to the 9-1-1 emergency number around 5:00 p.m. Rescue personnel were requested at the lagoon since the man appeared unconscious.

The man was found in the lagoon by a tourist boat who transported him to a lagoon shore from where emergency services were called. While CPR was applied, the man was unresponsive.

The deceased has been identified by his initials J.F.B.H.. The 44-year-old man was with his wife at the time of the accident. Both are from the state of Guerrero.
