Swerving driver causes bus to block southbound PDC lane

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A section of Playa del Carmen highway was left impassable due to a dozing driver. The driver of the bus swerved and skidded on wet pavement Monday after falling asleep at the wheel.

The front of the bus suffered damage after crashing into the highway’s concrete guard and into vegetation. The front end of the bus was heavily damaged from the hit. The accident was reported to authorities on a stretch of highway north of Playa del Carmen.

The bus driver had just dropped of staff at a Riviera Maya hotel and was returning to PDC when the accident occurred. The bus was found by National Guard Highways across both southbound lanes. It was the only vehicle involved.

National Guard personnel dealt with the large line of backed up traffic due to the blocked lane. It took more than an hour for the bus to be towed from the scene. The unnamed driver of the bus was arrested and taken in for questioning.
