Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A Playa del Carmen taxi driver was taken to hospital Sunday after his cab was hit by an SUV. The two vehicle collision happened on Avenida 30 and Constituciónntes in the Gonzalo Guerrero neighborhood around 2:00 a.m.
According to early information, the driver of a private vehicle blew through a marked intersection, slamming into the oncoming taxi. The high rate of speed at which the private vehicle was traveling left the entire passenger side of the taxi crushed inward.
Upon impact, the cab was dragged to a corner in the opposite direction to where both vehicles ended up on the sidewalk. Several pieces of city infrastructure were damaged along the way.
The taxi was not carrying passengers at the time of the accident. The driver of the SUV was not seriously injured.
