Suspect sentenced to 24 years for 2020 stabbing death of PDC woman

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The State Attorney General’s Office says a man has been found guilty and sentenced to 24 years for the murder of a local woman.

On Wednesday, Marcos Zacarías Hernández was found guilty for the crime of attempted femicide. “The incident for which he was convicted occurred in October 2020 when his ex-partner left a home in the Misión Las Flores neighborhood.

“He approached her, grabbed her arm and verbally assaulted her. He then pulled a knife from his clothing and wounded her in various parts of her body, including her back, stomach, chest and arms,” they said.

“As a result, the victim screamed for help and someone who heard her called 911 for assistance. Police arrived and at the scene, arrested Marcos Zacarías Hernández.”

Authorities said Marcos Zacarías Hernández was sentenced to 24 years and 11 months in prison and ordered to pay a fine of 130,320 pesos, as well as a total of 32,500 pesos for material damages.
