Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Police have in custody a man that was removed from a central Play del Carmen hotel. The man was taken into custody late Monday morning after a suicide attempt.
The man has since been identified as 41-year-old Jesús “N” from the state of Morelos where he is an alleged hitman. His arrest took place from inside an 8th Street Playa del Carmen hotel after staff called police around 11:00 a.m.
Responding officers arrived to a disturbed male threatening to kill himself with what has since been identified as a fake weapon. The Seguridad Ciudadana Solidaridad (SSC) confirmed the weapon was a television remote wrapped in a towel.
When officers arrived, the man had the wrapped ‘weapon’ pointed at his head, threatening to pull the trigger. During negotiations with police, he is reported to have told officers that he was distraught over an unfaithful wife.
After he was taken into custody, authorities reportedly learned that he was a wanted man in the state of Morelos. Jesús “N” has been identified as an alleged member of a criminal group believed involved in numerous executions in the state.
The man was transferred to the Public Security and then received psychological care from medical personnel from the municipal Health Directorate. During the search of his hotel room, police did not find firearms or any illegal objects.
