Costa Maya, Q.R. — A stunned ocelot that was found laying in a lane of a federal highway is being treated. The cat was found by Chetumal motorists traveling the road at night earlier this week. It was found laying on its stomach completely stunned after likely being hit by a vehicle.
Motorists who found the cat were able to lift it into their vehicle and deliver it to environmental authorities who have since transferred it to the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA).
The animal is receiving medical treatment. It was found on the highway at night near the highway intersection of Mahahual that leads to the town of Limones. Authorities have not made a statement regarding the condition of the ocelot.
