Struggling swimmer rescued by marina off Playa del Carmen beach

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Marina personnel rescued an adult male reported having trouble off a central Playa del Carmen beach. Several sailors jumped in to help the struggling swimmer off Los Fundadores Saturday evening.

On Sunday, the Secretary of the Navy reported on the Saturday rescue of a man by personnel from the Fifteenth Naval Zone.

“This action was carried out when a person requested support from the naval personnel stationed at the Playa del Carmen Naval Station. One of their family members was at sea and was being dragged by the current,” the Secretaría de Marina said in a statement.

The incident happened Saturday evening off the central Playa del Carmen beach area of Fundadores park. Once the man was returned to shore, an ambulance was called since he was “presenting a hypertension crisis.”
