Holbox, Q.R. — Firemen were tasked with putting out an island palapa fire on Friday afternoon. The fire started on a palapa that was on a piece of private property next to the marina gas station.
Although the fire was not considered large, it did produce a considerable amount of smoke while flames burned through three areas of dried grass. Firemen arrived with two hoses to extinguish what had caught.
Due to the ongoing rainless weeks and high temperatures, the entire frame was also devoured by flames. Firemen were able to put out the fire before it reached a pile of dry lumber stacked next to the wooden structure.
There was no report on how the fire started.
