Sonora, Mexico — A highway that connects Chihuahua with Sonora was closed due to wintery conditions. On Monday, elements of the National Guard had a slippery section of Highway 2 closed to traffic due to sleet-covered roads.
The National Guard reported the closure due to sleet and the extreme cold that crystallized the asphalt strip, leaving hundreds of travelers stranded.
“Due to snow on the asphalt strip in the San Luis Port of the Agua Prieta-Janos section of the MX2 highway, vehicular traffic is suspended. Follow the recommendations of the authorities,” reported the State Civil Protection Unit in Sonora.
