Staff bus heading for Playa del Carmen bursts into flames on federal highway

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — City firemen were unable to save a staff bus that burst into flames Friday morning. The bus was traveling the federal 307 south of Playa del Carmen when the fire happened

Emergency personnel help was requested around 11:00 a.m. when the bus caught fire. The driver reported “a strong burning smell from the undercarriage” before noticing smoke.

When smoke began to turn to flames, the bus was evacuated. The bus load of construction workers had just left Tulum for Playa del Carmen when the incident happened.

Playa del Carmen firemen were unable to save the bus since flames spread fast. National Guard Highways were called in to have the burned bus removed by a tow truck. There were no reports of injuries.
