SSP Solidaridad reports officers suspended over illegal arrest

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Two Solidaridad police officers have been suspended for an illegal arrest. In a news statement, SSP of Solidaridad reported on the illegal arrest that took place February 27.

The Secretariat of Public Security and Municipal Transit of Solidaridad reports that the elements that participated in an arrest that took place on the afternoon of Monday, February 27, in the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood, were suspended.

“This is due to the formal complaint before the Internal Affairs Directorate by the person affected who had a video shared on social networks that attested to the actions of the officers in question,” the SSP stated.

On Monday, the two officers are reported to have falsely arrested Antonio “R” in the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood of Playa del Carmen. Details leading up to the illegal arrest are not clear.

However, the Seguridad Pública Solidaridad added that while the investigation continues, the Council of Honor and Police Justice will meet to give continuity and prompt follow-up to this and other issues in which there is a file to inquire about the actions of the police officers who are accused of a citizen complaint.

In 16 sessions of the Council of Honor and Justice, 18 elements have been discharged, coupled with various sanctions that have been filed for the actions of other police officers.

We work to serve and protect Solidaridad, and behaviors outside the ethics and legal framework that govern the institution are not tolerated, the agency said.
