SSP of Solidaridad arrest two in attempted murder of Playa del Carmen taxi driver

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Two men who shot a Playa del Carmen taxi driver have been arrested. The SSP of Solidaridad announced the arrests of the two men Thursday after opening fire against a parked taxi.

The taxi was parked along Xel-Ha Avenue in the city’s northwest region of La Guadalupana around 4:00 a.m. when it was fired upon. The driver and female passenger inside were both hit.

The taxi driver, 40-year-old Edward “N”, was hit several times by the spray of bullets and rushed to hospital. His female passenger was hit twice and also taken to hospital. Their conditions are unknown.

On Thursday afternoon, the SSP of Solidaridad released a brief statement saying “as a result of the deployment of more police officers for security and surveillance in Solidaridad, two individuals accused of participating in a possible murder attempt that left two people injured in the La Guadalupana subdivision were arrested.”

The two men were taken into custody separately on Thursday after city officers located their vehicles. One man, 28-year-old Cristian “N” originally from Veracruz, was arrested from his vehicle. He is a PDC city taxi driver with the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río Taxi Union. Inside his cab, arresting officers located a loaded handgun.

Mere blocks away, the second arrest took place with the capture of 20-year-old Fabian “N”, originally from Playa del Carmen. He was also located in his vehicle and stopped. Both were taken into custody for their alleged involvement in the shooting of the taxi driver and his passenger.
