Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The design and implementation of strategies with a greater degree of intervention was agreed upon during a recent security meeting. Julio César Gómez Torres, the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), explained that starting in October, 52 new smart monitoring points will be implemented in Solidaridad, which is equivalent to a total of 208 security cameras.
In addition, authorities have already created the Centurión Group to combat extortion in Playa del Carmen which will join the newly formed Orión Group dedicated to reducing property crimes.
Members of the Security and Justice Roundtable held a meeting where they detailed progress with members of the private initiative, including the installation of 57 surveillance points in Solidaridad, which will be in operation starting in October.
Gómez Torres pointed out that progress will be made with the installation of 108 cameras to have 52 new surveillance points in Solidaridad, in addition to continuing to add cameras from private companies, through the “Guardianes 911” program.
The official said that there is complete coverage with the State Highway Police from Tulum to Cancun, although the state of force of this corporation in Solidaridad will be reinforced.
He also revealed that two weeks ago the “Centurión Group” was formed to focus on combating extortion, similar to the Orión Group focused on robberies. This new group, which depends on the Special Prosecutor’s Office department of Kidnapping and Extortion, will hold weekly meetings with business groups.
