Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Seven men have been arrested for the Wednesday night shooting of a Playa del Carmen family. An adult male, reported to be a local taxi driver, was shot along with his wife and 10 year old daughter while in their car.
The targeted attack took place in the residential area of Los Torres in the city’s extreme west. The arrests were announced Thursday by the SSC (Citizen Security of Solidaridad).
In a statement, the agency said Municipal Police arrested seven individuals accused of participating in the attempted homicide of a family, where two adults and a minor were injured by firearms.
“The prompt reaction of the Preventive Police allowed the arrest of 40-year-old Antonio “N”, Víctor “N”, 20, Ángel “N”, 18 and Mauricio “N”, 38 all from Chiapas.
Antonio “N”, 30, Reynaldo “N”, 28 both from Bacalar and Silverio “N” 29 from Yucatán, were also taken into custody.
During their arrests, police seized a firearm, 22 useful cartridges and one percussion cartridge, 16 wrappers with the possible crystal drug, seven with what looks like crack and five with possible marijuana.
“They were detained in the Las Torres irregular neighborhood after being accused of shooting at a vehicle and injuring three people, including a 10-year-old girl,” the SSC (Seguridad Ciudadana Solidaridad) reported Thursday.
All three were transferred to hospital due to injuries sustained. Police did not provide information on the extent of their injuries or a possible motive for the attack.
