Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The Solidaridad Itzamná Drone Group were successful in the jungle rescue of three people Wednesday night. The SSC (Secretary of Citizen Security) reported their safe return Thursday after becoming lost.
The adult and two minors were carrying out field work in the jungle near Punta Venado when they were unable to find their way out. Elements of the SSC (Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana) drone group were made aware of the missing trio through a 9-1-1 report.
They immediately began to carry out the corresponding task of locating the missing men.
Despite the intermittent rain, they managed to carry out the necessary flights until they found the location of all three people. In a statement, the SSC said when the lost people realized the drone was for them, they followed it.
The drone, which was outfitted with flashing LED lights, allowed them to follow it out of the dark jungle and back to the highway were authorities were waiting.
“Upon detecting the drone, they were able to follow it using the flashes and LEDs of the device, tracing the route until they left the jungle and met the operators,” the SSC reproted.
The drone rescue was done in coordination with Civil Protection who transferred to their homes after being found.
