Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A female taxi passenger was killed in a roadway accident Friday, when the taxi she was traveling in was hit by another vehicle. The accident happened around 5:30 a.m. New Year’s Day along a section of Cancún-Playa highway.
Officials at the scene reported that a total of three vehicles were involved. A Lázaro Cárdenas del Río union taxi number 3083 was sideswiped by a speeding SUV. The impact of that hit caused the death of the taxi’s backseat female passenger and also sent the car into another passing vehicle, which happened to be another taxi.
The driver from the second taxi, number 3097, became the third car involved in the accident.
Firefighters were requested at the scene to remove the body of the trapped woman from the car. Police surrounded the area while paramedics attended to the three injured drivers, all of whom, were transferred to hospital. The deceased woman was not immediately identified.
