Speed and dozing causes driver to topple cargo unit outside Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A cargo truck driver who fell asleep at the wheel found himself in a rather sideways situation on Friday when he was jolted awake. It was around 8:30 a.m. when passing motorists reported the highway mishap.

Elements of the National Guard arrived along the Playa del Carmen highway where they found the company cargo unit on its side, blocking a lane of traffic.

Reports say that a combination of dozing and speed caused the driver to lose control and topple his unit. While the driver walked away, the cargo truck suffered structural damage.

Federal Highway Police stuck around until a tow truck arrived to transfer the unit to the corralón.
