SPC reports no injuries after central Playa del Carmen restaurant fire

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Only material damage was reported in a restaurant fire in central Playa del Carmen Wednesday. Solidaridad firemen were requested at a restaurant in the central shopping plaza after flames began to spread.

Firemen were able to save the building after the fire, which started in the front of the plaza, spread to a neighboring hotel in the back. For this reason, all hotel guests and plaza shoppers were evacuated from the building.

A large section of Playa del Carmen’s center was cordoned off as firemen and Civil Protection personnel attended to the Fifth Avenue scene. Elements of the army as well as municipal police were also at the location.

There were no injuries reported during or from the fire, only material damage. Civil Protection personnel continue to work with Solidaridad firemen for an exact cause of the fire.

In a statement by the Secretaría de Protección Civil (SPC), Prevención de Riesgos y Bomberos de Solidaridad, they reported “elements of the Fire Department and the Operational Department fought the fire of a restaurant on 5th Avenue.

“All people were evacuated and the area was cordoned off to avoid another emergency. So far only material damage has been reported.”
