Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The upper level of a house in the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood of Playa del Carmen was destroyed by fire Saturday. Solidaridad firefighters responded to the report of a palapa fire on 30th Avenue Saturday morning.

Work was being done on the upper level of the house around 11:00 a.m. when a set of sparks caught the dry grass roof on fire. Personnel at the C5 received the emergency call of the house fire.
Firemen who responded reported being able to stop the flames from spreading to other properties on 106th Street and 30th Avenue. They also reported no injuries in the morning blaze.
Protección Civil, Prevención de Riesgos y Bomberos of Solidaridad said “firefighters from the Civil Protection Secretariat controlled and extinguished the fire in a palapa, which prevented the flames from spreading to the surrounding houses.
“The events took place on 106th Street and 30th Avenue in the Colosio neighborhood where our firefighters activated the protocols to extinguish and control the fire, with no injuries reported.”

Since their statement, welding sparks have been determined as the cause of the late morning fire.
