Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — The palapa roof of a building owned by the municipality of Solidaridad caught fire early this morning. It was just after midnight when firefighters were made aware of the burning building on 20th Street.

The building, which is part of the Secretariat of Economy, was reported on fire through 9-1-1 after residents saw smoke coming from inside.
Firemen arrived at 20th Street and Avenida Primera Sur where they were greeted by fast moving flames. Within minutes, the entire structure was ablaze. Firemen were at the scene more than an hour working to extinguish the fire.

The building was reported empty at the time of the fire. There were no injuries reported or damage aside from the initial building. Civil Protection will visit the site Saturday to work with firemen to find an official cause for the early morning fire.
