Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Firefighters from the municipality of Solidaridad were called to the scene of a single vehicle accident in Yucatan Saturday. The team of Civil Protection personnel from the fire department were requested to help remove a trapped person from inside a vehicle.

The accident happened Saturday morning on a section of Mérida-Cancún highway in the neighboring state of Yucatan. Members of the Fire Department of the Civil Protection Secretariat of Quintana Roo were requested by their counterparts in Yucatan to rescue a driver who was trapped in the cab of his heavy duty unit.
The accident occurred at kilometer 205 where a semi rolled, landing on its roof and trapping the driver in side the cab. Yucatecan authorities requested support from their counterparts in Quintana Roo who left the state to join the rescue efforts.
Using special tools, Solidaridad rescuers were able to free the male driver who was found with multiple fractures. After receiving pre-hospital care at the scene, he was rushed by ambulance to hospital.

In a statement Saturday afternoon, Solidaridad firemen released a statement saying “firefighters from the Civil Protection Department responded to a request for collaboration from the neighboring state of Yucatan to assist in the release of a person trapped inside a trailer that had crashed on the Mérida – Cancún highway.
“As part of our mission to safeguard the integrity of people, our firefighters moved to kilometer 205 where they joined the release efforts in coordination with elements of the state of Yucatan.

“With the support of hydraulic tools, the victim was freed and received prehospital care since he had multiple fractures and was transferred by ambulance to the hospital in the municipality of Valladolid.”
