Costa Maya, Q.R. — A tractor trailer transporting approximately 20 tons of food overturned early Monday morning. The semi was found laying on its side of a Costa Maya highway by federal officials around 7:00 a.m. after passing motorists made the report.
The driver of the large unit received minor injuries during the mishap. He was treated by responding paramedics on scene. The semi was carrying approximately 20 tons of fruit and vegetables at the time of the accident. The unit was headed for a supermarket in the north of the state.
According to preliminary information, the driver of the unit dozed off at the wheel causing him to swerve. In an attempt to correct the swerve, he overcompensated and ended up overturning his unit. An estimate on damages was not provided.
