Semana Santa huge success with Bacalar being most occupied destination in state

Cancun, Riviera Maya, Q.R. — As more than 462,000 students and 24,000 teachers return to classes around the state, officials report that the holiday season was a success with state destinations recording high occupancy rates.

The Easter or Semana Santa holiday period that ran from April 13 to 28, saw an average of 504 flights per day in and out of the Cancun International Airport with Aeropuertos del Sureste (ASUR) announcing a total of 7,558 air operations during the season.

Destinations of Quintana Roo also reported it as a busy season with occupancy rates of more than 90 percent in places such as Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Chetumal and Holbox with other destinations reporting even higher.

According to a report from Secretaría de Turismo de Quintana Roo, the most busy destination in the state during the recent Semana Santa holiday season was Bacalar, with 100 percent occupancy rate.

Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Chetumal and Holbox were destinations that reported hotel occupancy rates of between 90 percent to 96 percent.

Meanwhile, José María Morelos reported a hotel occupation rate of 89.6 percent, Cancun and Puerto Morelos 86.7 percent, Riviera Maya 87.5 percent, Cozumel 82.3 percent, Mahahual 80 percent and Isla Mujeres, 78 percent.
