Bacalar, Q.R. — The Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) has requested permits to rebuild their Bacalar lagoon pier. The new pier, Casa Bacalar Pier, will replace the current dock which they say is rotting.

Sedena requested permits after submitting their environmental impact statement February 23.
The Felipe Ángeles Engineering Group, whose commander, General Ricardo Vallejo Suárez serves as project coordinator, submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) the request for authorization of its Environmental Impact Statement (MIA) with the name Reconstruction of the Casa Bacalar Pier.
According to their submitted documents, the project consists of the replacement, rehabilitation and improvement of the infrastructure of an existing dock, as well as the rehabilitation of three thatched palapas, which have reached the end of their useful life, both operational and structural, on a total surface of 278.54 square meters in the Bacalar lagoon.
The proposal envisions replacing the old pier with a structure made of highly durable natural materials with ecological compatibility, using huano palm for the roofs, respecting the vernacular typology of the region.
“Its components will be an access walkway 55.97 meters long by two meters wide, a transverse terminal platform, two side palapas with dimensions of 9.50 meters by 10 meters and a height of 5.25 meters and a central palapa with dimensions of 2.05 meters by 4.10 meters and a height of 2.95 meters,” the document reads.

Sedena says the dock will cost just over two million pesos and take 45 days to construct once started.
