Security guard assaults Playa del Carmen customer who refused to check backpack

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Police were called to a commercial store Wednesday in response to an altercation between a customer and security guard. A customer who had arrived at the store wanted to shop carrying his backpack after he was told to check it.

Roberto “N”, 51, refused to leave his backpack, saying he did not want to risk having his backpack stolen, however, the front door security guard refused to allow him to keep it with him, which lead to an altercation.

According to available information, the security guard is alleged to have physically attacked the customer, hitting the man in the face. Police were called to the store shortly before 10:30 a.m. in response to an injured person.

The Mexio City native told police he had been assaulted by the store’s security guard when he refused to leave his backpack in the parcel room because it contained valuable items.

According to him, this caused a violent reaction from the guard, who hit him in the face and forehead, causing his nose to bleed. After the attack, the security guard fled the scene.

A medical unit later arrived to assess the victim, who did not have any serious injuries. There was no word on charges.
