Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The state’s Secretary of Tourism reports a direct focus on Canadians since they are the second largest market for the region. With the upcoming winter season just around the corner, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, the Secretaría de Turismo en Quintana Roo, says they are currently focusing Cancun and Riviera Maya marketing strategies on the Canadian market.
Cueto Riestra says they have promoted to Canadian travel agencies and tour operators regarding different destinations around the state.
“As part of the preparations for the arrival of Canadian visitors, we have intensified the promotion of the Mexican Caribbean by sharing new offers that we have this winter,” he said.
Cueto Riestra said that Cancun will have additional connections with Canadian cities such as as Edmonton, Regina, London and Ontario and more frequent flight from other cities.
“To this we will have to add that there will be more frequencies from Toronto, Calgary, Quebec and Vancouver,” he specified.
In a recent report, Miguel Torruco Marqués, the Secretario de Turismo del Gobierno de México announced a substantial increase in Canadian visitors to Mexico. He said from January to July, 945,575 Canadian tourists have arrived, a 1,197.9 percent increase over the same time in 2021 due to their covid-19 travel restrictions.
However, these 2022 figures are still 37.8 percent lower than what Mexico recorded in 2019, which was just over 1.5 million Canadians.
