Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — State officials continue to battle the latest Uaimil fire in the Sian Ka’an Reserve, which is reportedly 45 percent under control.
The fire is under the control of Equipo Estatal de Manejo de Incidentes (EEMI), who reported the 45 percent containment of the fire and advancements of 25 percent liquidation in extinguishing flames that has to date, claimed 827 hectares of reserve brush and grassland.
The State Incident Management Team says they have 140 forest firefighters on the ground from varying organizations including CONAFOR (Quintana Roo-Campeche, Yucatán and Chiapas), CONANP, SEDENA, SEMA and the Regional Southeast Fire Management Center.
The state government made a flyover of the area with commander of the EEMI Ramiro Sabido Ojeda, and found that the conflagration remains very active with several hot spots within the perimeter of the fire.
A Mexican Air Force MI1705 helicopter has been on hand to transfer personnel to and from the site. Officials have not provided any determined date as to when the fire, which is the second in the Sian Ka’an Reserve in a month, will be extinguished.
