Seat belt infraction leads to discovery of cocaine shipment

Los Mochis, Sinaloa — The driver of an old-model pickup truck was pulled over on a Sinaloa highway after police saw he was driving without his seat belt.

Elements of la Dirección General de Seguridad en Carreteras y Instalaciones pulled the man over along the Culiacán-Los Mochis highway for the driving infraction. While writing his ticket, police said the man became very evasive and nervous, which led to an inspection of his vehicle.

Their inspection revealed a large tank in the covered bed of the truck that had visible modifications and fresh paint. Inside the modified tank, police located 22 packages of cocaine.

The unidentified male driver was taken into police custody where he was registered in the National Detention Registry where he will wait for a hearing with the Public Ministry who will determine his legal status.
