Bacalar, Q.R. — Divers from a rescue team located the body of a man who is believed to have drowned Tuesday. The man, who has not been identified, was pulled from Cenote Cocalitos of the Bacalar lagoon Tuesday evening.
Divers began a search for the man after reports of a jet ski accident. A man and woman were jet skiing on the lagoon Tuesday afternoon when they overturned. The woman was rescued alive and unharmed.
Municipal and naval authorities began their search for the man after locating the woman shortly after 4:00 p.m. Bacalar Municipal Police reported that the jet ski capsized with two people on board. The woman was immediately assisted while the man was lost in the lagoon.
Chetumal Naval Search and Rescue spent several hours searching for the man. They were assisted by jet skis, boats and a drone. The man was finally located that evening. He was found dead.
His body was returned to shore via a naval search and rescue boat. The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) is investigating the accident.
